About this opportunity

The International Biomedical Engineering Olympiad (IBMEO) begins with an open online qualifying exam for secondary students around the world. Students tackle 55 multiple-choice questions spanning biomechanics, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, and physiological systems. Scores are ranked within each country, and the top five eligible scorers per country advance to the international round. Every qualifying-round participant receives a digital certificate, while top performers earn formal distinctions and medals.

Who can apply

Open to students currently enrolled in Grades 9–12 or equivalent secondary school. Candidates must be 20 or younger at the international round and must compete under a country where they hold citizenship or permanent residency. Students from all countries may register directly. YourRoute maps Grades 9–12 to ages 14–18.

What you'll need to apply

Complete the official online registration with student name/email, school, grade, country represented, and parent/guardian contact details; agree to the honor code; obtain guardian consent; and pay the USD 25 registration fee. A stable internet connection and webcam are required for remote proctoring.
