About this opportunity

Horizon Academic Research Program is an online research program for high school students. For the Fall 2026 cycle, the year-round Horizon Labs format offers individualized research mentorship with PhD/postdoctoral scholars. Students refine an original research question, complete a substantial college-level research manuscript, and receive a certificate and grade report. STEM options include areas such as data science, machine learning, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering and related fields.

Who can apply

Applicants must be enrolled in grades 9–12. Horizon states that most accepted students are in grades 10–11. A strong academic record (3.67 unweighted GPA or equivalent) and demonstrated interest or achievement in the chosen subject are required. Some advanced tracks have specific prerequisites.

Online application with school and academic information, transcript, research interests and written responses. Shortlisted applicants complete an interview. Standardized test scores are optional.
