Breakthrough Junior Challenge 2026

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge asks young students to take a complex scientific or mathematical concept and explain it clearly and creatively in an original two-minute video. Entrants compete individually and are judged on engagement, illumination, creativity, and difficulty of the topic. After submitting, participants also evaluate other students' videos through a required peer-review stage. The overall winner receives a substantial post-secondary scholarship, while their teacher and school receive additional awards.

Must be at least 13 by 11 May 2026 and must still be 18 or younger on 1 October 2026. Previous winners of this or similar competitions sponsored by the organizer are not eligible. Minors require parent/legal guardian permission.

Create an account and complete the application profile, select a concept or theory in physics, mathematics, or life sciences; create an original video of no more than 2 minutes; upload it to YouTube and submit the link; then review and score at least five other entries during the Peer-to-Peer Review period. Only one entry per participant is permitted.
