A major merit scholarship for high-achieving first-year applicants from around the world who demonstrate academic strength, initiative, creativity and leadership beyond the classroom.

About this opportunity

Boston University’s Presidential Scholarship recognizes first-year students who combine exceptional academic achievement with meaningful impact in their schools and communities. International students are explicitly eligible. There is no separate scholarship application: students receive consideration by completing their BU undergraduate admission application by the scholarship deadline. Beginning with students entering Fall 2026, the award is worth half of annual tuition.

Who can apply

Open to first-year applicants from around the world, including international students. Applicants must meet Boston University first-year admission requirements. YourRoute represents students in the last year of high school applying for first-year admission as ages 17–18.

What you'll need to apply

Submit the Common Application or QuestBridge Application for Boston University by the scholarship deadline, including the required secondary-school transcript, senior-year grades, counselor recommendation and school report, teacher evaluation, personal statement and BU supplemental essay. International applicants must also meet BU’s international credential and English-language requirements where applicable.

Cost: Paid

US$80 Boston University undergraduate admission application fee; eligible applicants may request a fee waiver. There is no separate Presidential Scholarship application fee.
